Blog Post Title Two - Why have a celebrant wedding?

Getting engaged is really exciting - there are so many people to tell and so many things to plan. As well as the venue and guest list, the ceremony itself has to be a big consideration as it is at the core of the day (although all the other celebrations are very fun!).

When considering your wedding ceremony, there are some core decisions to make:

  1. Are you religious? If so, you will want to get married in your place of worship by a religious officiant (alternatively you can have your marriage blessed). Some religious weddings are not legally recognised in the UK so will also involve a separate legal marriage.

  2. Is it important to you to have a legal certificate at the time of your wedding ceremony? Many countries deal with the legal certification separately to the wedding ceremony, but we have a tradition of the two being linked in the UK meaning many people feel the presence of a registrar is important. Legal weddings are not allowed to have spiritual content - no hymns or religious readings. You are also very unlikely to know your registrar prior to them marrying you.

  3. Do you want your wedding to be personalised to you as a couple? If so, a celebrant wedding is probably the best route to go. Although you will need to do the ‘legal bit’ separately to the wedding ceremony (if you are looking to be legally united), you will be free to have exactly what you want in the ceremony in terms of the content. This means you can have some religious readings or hymns if you would like them. You will get to know your celebrant before the wedding and so will have an established rapport with them, which may help if you are nervous! Your love story and what makes you unique as a couple will be at the centre of the ceremony. You may wish to involve some rituals (such as a handfasting) or simply share your commitment through carefully-chosen words.

Start with these questions and which of the three options feels the right fit for you.

As a wedding celebrant, I can offer you the freedom to generate a service from scratch with the content you want. I will meet you before the wedding so you will establish a relationship with me that makes you feel confident on the day and helps me generate a bespoke ceremony that centres around you as a couple.
